Fairfield
Fairfield is a western suburb of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Fairfield is approximately 23.40km or 14.54 miles from the inner Sydney City. The suburb is considered to be the most multicultural area in Sydney because of the different cultures in the place. Fairfield is a place of residence for around 15, 484 people which is made up of 7,603 males and 7,881 females. The total numbers of employment in the area is 4,523 while 5,724 people are not part of the labor force. Majority of the employed residents living the suburb are laborers. Fairfield shares the postcode 2165 with Fairfield east, Fairfield heights and Fairfield west.
Native people from the Cabrogal and Gandangara tribe have lived in the area for more than 30,000 years. For the record, they are the early settles in the place. Frenchman Gabriel Lous Marie Huon de Kerrileau arrived in the area in 1794. This soldier in the New South Wales Corps got married in the year 1800 just to satisfy the Colonial law. Seven years after, Gabriel received a grant of 100 acres in the center of Fairfield which he named “Castel Paul” and additional grants after a few years. A free settler named John Horsley purchased the grants of Gabriel and named it after family properties. Horsley and his large family were identified as some of the many pioneers in the Fairfield area. The first railways station in Fairfield was opened in 1856 and became the oldest surviving railway in New South Wales. Because of some developments in the area at the turn of the century, the area had a population of 2,500. The population started to increase after World War II. By 1979, the population had reached 120,000 and made Fairfield one of the largest areas in New South Wales.
The suburb of Fairfield is reported to be warmer and drier compared to other areas in Sydney. The winter rain the area is averaging at 169.4mm while the summer rain at 268.44mm. Since summer rain is quite higher than the winter rain temperature, sinter in the area is slightly drier than the summer months. There could be a temperature differential of 5 degrees Celsius in summer in the area and 10 degrees Celsius differential in extreme cases or situations.
Fairfield is now an ideal place to settle down because of its development throughout the years. The suburb has two shopping malls: Fairfield Forum and Neeta City. The combination of different cultures brought multicultural business in the area such restaurants and specialty shops which offer different cuisines and souvenirs.
